On August 24, 2024, the KwaZulu-Natal Christian Council (KZNCC) hosted a distinguished Traditional Leaders’ Gala Dinner at the Durban International Convention Centre. The event was a significant gathering that aimed to celebrate and strengthen the role of traditional leaders within the community.

The highlight of the evening was the keynote address delivered by the KZN MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Rev. Thulasizwe D. Buthelezi. In his speech, Rev. Buthelezi underscored the critical role of traditional leaders in bridging cultural heritage with contemporary governance. He emphasized the necessity of collaboration between traditional institutions and government bodies to address community needs effectively.

A key outcome of the evening was the announcement of a forthcoming Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the KZNCC and COGTA. Rev. Buthelezi confirmed that the MOU will be drafted and signed to formalize a partnership that will enhance cooperative efforts and support joint initiatives between the two entities.

The Gala Dinner served as an important platform for dialogue, fostering a spirit of unity and collaboration among traditional leaders and stakeholders.
