Youth & Children

The KZNCC's Youth & Children's programme promotes the wellbeing, resilience and dignity of children. Lobbying and advocating for children's rights — with a key focus on policy formation, reformation, and the implementation of turn-around strategies on children's issues.

Mobilising local churches, ecumenical organisations, businesses and local families to practically contribute sustainable solutions to the plight of children at risk, protecting youth and children.

Running workshops to develop the skills of children, raising awareness and educating communities on the rights of children, and fostering child participation where appropriate in all issues that concern them.

Primary objectives
  • Promote active participation of children in the church and encourage churches to become safe spaces for children — including psychosocial support programmes.
  • Train church children workers and church leaders on policies relating to working with children, and equip them with skills on understanding and communicating with children.
  • Conduct training on protective behaviours across district councils — including programmes such as the Amajuba District Training.
  • Run capacity-building workshops on cyber-bullying and online safety, in partnership with digital network partners.
  • Strengthen ecumenical and government partnerships for child wellbeing — including the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund, the King Cetshwayo Christian Council, and the University of Zululand.
