Land Issues

KZNCC plays a proactive role in resolving land issues in the province. Facilitating constructive dialogue between farmers and farm dwellers/workers — aiming to establish justice and peace between farm dwellers, farm workers and commercial farmers of KwaZulu-Natal farms.

Offering capacity-building training for partners and stakeholders in mediation, conflict resolution, lobbying and advocacy skills — managing conflicts between farmers, farm dwellers and labour tenants. Most of the conflicts and animosity emanate from the alleged violation of the basic human rights of the people living and working on farms.

Publicising inspiring success stories of land and transformation in South Africa.

Primary objectives
  • Promote access to land rights, land tenure and human rights in farm and rural communities — focusing on rural and farm land affected by land issues.
  • Promote peace and stability in identified KZN farm areas affected by land violence and conflict; promote healing and reconciliation through processes like Healing of Memories and Alternatives to Violence.
  • Contribute to the development of land policies that benefit both landless people and commercial farmers — responding to human rights abuses across any group.
  • Uplift church farming communities with emphasis on effective, practical use of church land; support church communities involved in organic commercial farming.
  • Collaborate with government and business to support local church farming communities — promoting job creation, poverty alleviation, and food security.
