The Blue Communities Project encourages municipalities and Indigenous communities to support the idea of a water commons framework — recognising that water is a shared resource for all, and that water and sanitation are human rights.
The project promotes publicly financed, owned and operated water and wastewater services. The mandate of implementing the Blue Communities Project in Africa is to empower local communities to assert their right to water, protect water as a common good, and foster equitable water management practices.
This project aims to create a new narrative that transcends traditional approaches and emphasises community self-management.
